Students will learn to sew a 3-hole and 5-hole single pamphlet book, with the option to carve a simple stamp or use ready-made stamps to create beautiful quilt-like patterns on the covers.

Students will learn basic bookbinding terminology and material considerations, starting with folding and sewing text blocks. Each student receives enough material to make and take home 2 single pamphlet books. The last portion of class is used for carving a simple stamp shape and printing patterns onto the covers before taking the books home.

About your instructor: Sara White operates Alluvium Press & Bindery, offering book and paper repair, custom boxmaking, bookbinding, and letterpress printing. She holds an MFA in Book Arts, and her artist books are exhibited and held in special collections across the country.
